The AGS is a new approach to strategically address problems
affecting the "global commons."
In 1994, the AGS was formed by three of the world's leading
technical and research universities, the University of Tokyo, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology and the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. A list of university contacts is

This unique collaboration provides a framework in which leaders
in academic, business, governmental and non-governmental organizations build new knowledge
about complex issues in order to reconcile environmental and economic concerns.
Through collaborative research at the three universities, faculty
and students develop and promote effective new policies and processes to address
sustainability issues.
Current areas of study include: energy for the 21st century,
environmentally conscious design and manufacturing, future cities and mobility.
The Alliance encourages rapid sharing of research results through
reports, workshops, and conferences in order to translate this knowledge into effective
action.
